There are fourteen (14) single member districts.

Proposed:

Nine (9) single member districts plus two (2) At-Large for a total of eleven
(11) Council Members

Discussion:

• Fourteen seats is a holdover from Police Jury
• St. Tammany has the 2nd largest Council in the state
• Police Jury was an administrative body
• Parish Council is a legislative body
• Smaller legislative bodies more efficient
• More parish-wide ideas and decision-making
• Closeness between council member and constituents already decreased with increase in population
