Filling Parish President Vacancies
Current:
The Parish Council appoints an interim President within fifteen days to serve until an election is held and the winning candidate is sworn in. The appointee may run for the vacant seat.
Proposed:
Chief Administrative Office or Asst. CAO is Interim President until new Parish President is elected and sworn in. The Interim President is not allowed to run for the office.
Discussion:
- Provides continuity
- Appointee focuses on job, not upcoming election
- Inherent powers of incumbency not a factor in election
